Staff Introductions: Brittany Cerqua

Brittany Cerqua

Name: Brittany Cerqua

Title: National Head of Strategy (2018-2019)

Law School: University of Ottawa, Class of 2019

Background: I am originally from Toronto.

Memorable Moment in Law School: My involvement with the First Generation Network. I experienced firsthand how hard it is to enter law school, after navigating an intimidating application process, only to find out that there are many more intimidating processes to go through. The 2L recruit, finding either paid or volunteer-based work in the law school environment, finding time to cook, clean and socialize; the list goes on. When given the opportunity to help the First Generation Network grow, I couldn’t resist. It was an opportunity to make the experience more manageable for everyone who comes in contact with the First Generation Network.

Current Plans: I am a summer student at McCarthy Tétrault LLP.

Future Plans: I’m going to finish 3L, move back to Toronto permanently, and travel as much as I can before and after articling.

Fun Facts About Me: I have met the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, Beverley McLachlin.

Advice for Incoming Law Students: Make sure you take time to have fun and relax, especially in 1L when everything is new and overwhelming. Be nice to everyone: you never know who will be doing what 10 years from now. Find summaries from upper year students but always do your own reading, work and studying.
