Name: Deniz Samadi
Title: Head of Events (2019 – 2020)
Law School: Queen’s University Faculty of Law, Class of 2021
Background: I was born and raised in and around the Toronto area. I come from a proud Iranian-Canadian family, who have instilled in me the classic Persian spirit of hospitality, kindness, and respect for a well-brewed cup of tea. Being the first person in my family to attend university or law school is a point of pride for me. I owe everything to my family, because without their sacrifice and support I wouldn’t be where I am today. Navigating law school as a first generation student has its unique challenges, but having my network of family, friends, and other first gen students to look to for support has made the whole experience much less daunting.
Current and Future Plans: I spent this summer as a research assistant for a legal clinic in Toronto, in addition to working the same sales job I did in my year off prior to law school. I am currently gearing up for the 2L recruitment process.
Fun Facts About Me: I always dread these sections because I realize how absolutely normal I strive to be. On an ideal day off I’m more than likely tanning somewhere with my best friends, reading a good book, or spending quality time with my dog Charlie who is pestering me for treats. I am always looking for podcast and restaurant recommendations. I meditate every single day.
Advice for Incoming Law Students: Keep things in perspective. Take a deep breath. Own your story. Stay true to who you are.
